2025-6 Southern Winter League 3

Southern Winter League 3

The omens for this comp weren't good - the windscreen wipers were on for most of the 2½ hour trip, and it was still raining as I approached the hill!

Then, as if by magic, the rain stopped, and we ended up flying ten splendid rounds. It was especially nice coming after a long period of rain which has afflicted much of the UK (the two previous Southern league events were cancelled due to poor weather).

The comp

The competition took place on the SW bowl. The entry was small, with just ten pilots turning up, others having been put off by the forecast.

Conditions were good with a ~7 m/s wind and some thermal activity to make it interesting. The winner was John Philips with his Saker and Wyvern. John was nailing the bases in his usual slope-hugging style. Mike Bleathman was runner up, and I came third with my Pike Precision 2.

A special mention for Simon Kronfeld, subject of our heading photo and returnee to F3F after a long layoff. He flew very nicely, and we look forward to him joining the party again soon.

Acknowedgements

Many thanks to Mike Bleathman and William Fourie for organising.
