2026 BMFA League 3, Scotland

Stefan Bertschi launches for Joel West

BMFA League 3, Scotland

The comp took place on Pole Hill near Kilspindie, near Perth. It was quite a long trip for some of us - especially Stefan - and unusually it spanned both Saturday and Sunday.

Personally, it was a great opportunity for me to try a different slope - and, later, to explore the Highlands and west coast.

The comp

The course was challenging, with one base considerably higher than the other and a slight shelf on the lower base. This made for a good test of turn and energy management skills.

Day One: low cloud delayed the start, only lifting around lunch time. Still, we managed to fly five rounds. Mark Treble suffered a disappointment when he flew a sizzling 38 only for the round to be cancelled when the fog returned. Pete Gunning finished the day at the head of the leader board, with Stefan second and Joel West third.

Day Two: the sun shone, but some rather variable air resulted in times between the 40's and 60's. Fortunately we managed to get 14 rounds in, which smoothed out at least some of the variability. Pete Gunning just pipped Kevin Newton for the win, with Joel West third.

And so ended a most enjoyable competition, graced with a high quality entry.

Acknowledgements

Many thanks to Pete Gunning and Mark Treble for organising. And to Stefan for joining us all the way from Switzerland!
